Union Cabinet approves lease extension of AAI land leased to MIHAN India Limited for Nagpur Airport

The union cabinet has approved the extension of the lease tenure for land owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and leased to MIHAN India Limited (MIL) beyond August 6, 2039. The decision will allow MIL to grant Nagpur airport operations to GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited (GNIAL) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model for a period of 30 years from the commercial operation date. The move is expected to accelerate the development of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport into an aviation hub under the Multimodal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) project. GNIAL aims to expand the airport in phases to accommodate 30 million passengers per annum, while also enhancing cargo facilities, regional connectivity and economic growth across Vidarbha and central India.
