Centre approves Rs 14.27 billion Four‑Lane Thiruvarur bypass in Tamil Nadu

The Union government has approved construction of a four‑lane bypass around Thiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, with an estimated cost of Rs 14.27 billion. The new route on National Highway 83 will divert through traffic away from the town, improving flow and reducing travel time by approximately 15 minutes for vehicles passing through the area.

The project aims to ease congestion within Thiruvarur by providing a faster corridor for long‑distance and goods traffic, enhancing connectivity on NH‑83 and supporting regional economic activity. The project includes two additional rail over bridges on NH-129A and NH-134A, as well as a 14.9 km segment of National Highway 83 between Nagapattinam and Thanjavur.

Officials say the bypass will also improve road safety in the town by cutting heavy vehicle movement through populated areas.
