Kiul-Jhajha Third Rail Line Project in Bihar approved

The Ministry of Railways (MoR) approved the Kiul-Jhajha Third Rail Line Project at an estimated cost of Rs 9.62 billion on May 19, 2026.

The route provides key connectivity between Kolkata/Haldia ports and Raxaul/Nepal, while carrying major freight traffic for Barh Super Thermal Power Plant (STPP), Jawahar Super Thermal Power Plant (STPP) and Birganj Inland Container Depot (ICD).

The project involves laying a 54 km long third rail line from Kiul to Jhajha station in Bihar.
