The 500 MWe Prototype fast breeder reactor (PFBR) has attained first criticality, marking a key milestone in India’s nuclear energy programme after receiving clearance from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). The reactor was designed by the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research and built by Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited.
