Ministry of Railways (MoR) approved construction of bridge no. 520 UP Down (DN) (substructure) between Madhukunda-Damodar section at a cost of Rs 2.23 billion on May 2, 2026. This section is a key railway link between Asansol and Tatanagar, part of a Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) feeder and coal corridor (Sini-Purulia-Asansol), handling 67 Gross Million Tonnes (GMT). It will also support industries in the Durgapur-Asansol belt, including the Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO) and Associated Cement Companies (ACC) plants, by improving rail connectivity.
The project involves strengthening and reconstruction of bridge substructure and associated railway infrastructure between Madhukunda and Damodar in West Bengal.
