Manisha Singh is chief architect of business development at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). With over 30 years of professional experience as a design professional, architect and educationist, she brings a strong combination of academic rigour, design leadership and international exposure, having worked across India, the UK and the UAE. Her education and professional training span India, Sri Lanka, the UK, the US and the UAE, providing her with a comprehensive perspective on global best practices in architecture and infrastructure development.
Throughout her career, Singh has focused on enhancing spatial quality and user-centric outcomes across institutional, transit and industrial environments. Her areas of expertise include architectural consultancy, transit design, educational campus planning, curriculum development and strategic project management. She has been associated with a diverse range of projects and institutions, contributing to the planning and execution of complex, large-scale developments.
At DMRC, she plays a key role in the design and development of metro stations, transit-oriented development projects, multimodal integration, consultancy assignments and property development initiatives. She is currently associated with important Phase IV corridors, including the Rithala-Kundli and Indraprastha-Inderlok sections.
In her present role, Singh addresses challenges related to regulatory frameworks, development control provisions and multi-agency coordination. She views these challenges as opportunities to optimise design outcomes within institutional frameworks, while enhancing the efficiency, accessibility and aesthetic quality of mass transit systems.
As per Singh, “The infrastructure sector in India will witness significant strengthening through the adoption of digital technologies such as AI and digital twins, wider institutionalisation of building information modelling from the conceptual stage, integrated multimodal transport hubs, and an increased emphasis on non-motorised transport and last-mile connectivity. Additionally, the incorporation of carbon-neutral and environmentally responsible building practices will become central to sustainable infrastructure development.”
Her management approach is decentralised and collaborative. Team members are encouraged to independently analyse challenges, propose solutions and participate in open brainstorming without hierarchical constraints. Outside work, Singh enjoys reading and swimming, which help her unwind and contribute to her personal well-being and balance.
