Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has operationalised India’s first “Port of Refuge” (PoR), creating a formal system to assist ships in distress and handle maritime emergencies. A PoR is a designated safe location where vessels can stabilise, protect lives, and minimise environmental damage.
APSEZ has identified Dighi Port (west coast) and Gopalpur Port (east coast) as PoR sites, covering key shipping routes in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. These facilities will offer services like salvage, firefighting, pollution control, and coordinated emergency response.
