Indian Railways (IR) has achieved freight loading of 1,503.8 million tonnes (mt) during FY 2025-26 (till February 2026), compared to 1,456.07 mt in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering an increase of 3.28 per cent. Besides, Freight revenue during the same period reached Rs 1,609.87 billion, as against Rs 1,585.39 billion in the previous year, marking a growth of 1.54 per cent. Total freight movement measured in Net Tonne Kilometres (NTKM) stood at 840,000 million, compared to 826,586 million NTKM recorded during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 1.62 per cent.
Further, In February 2026, IR carried 137.72 mt of freight, registering a 3.96 per cent increase compared to 132.48 mt in February 2025. Freight revenue during the month stood at Rs 145.71 billion, up from Rs 141.51 billion in the corresponding month last year, reflecting a 2.97 per cent increase. Freight movement was recorded at 76,007 million NTKM in February 2026, compared to 72,955 million NTKM in February 2025, registering a 4.18 per cent growth.
