Network Planning Group evaluates two rail projects in various states

The Network Planning Group (NPG) of ‘PM GatiShakti National Master Plan’ evaluated the Jalandhar Cantt-Jammu Tawi Third Rail Line Project and Manikpur-Itarsi Third Rail Line Project on February 25, 2026.

Jalandhar Cantt-Jammu Tawi Third Rail Line Project involves construction of a 210.75 km long third rail line from Jalandhar Cantt to Jammu Tawi in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. The proposed alignment will include 27 stations and traverse key districts such as Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kangra, Pathankot, Kathua, and Samba. The project is aimed at significantly augmenting rail capacity and strengthening connectivity along this strategically critical corridor.

Manikpur-Itarsi Third Rail Line Project involves construction of a 518.53 km long third rail line from Manikpur to Itarsi in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
