Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has inaugurated the demonstration of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production at the Visakh refinery by co-processing used cooking oil in the full conversion hydrocracker unit. As part of the initiative, bio-feedstock is to be integrated up to the ASTM-permitted limits using the existing infrastructure at the refinery for the production of SAF that meets aviation fuel quality standards. It targets the production of 10,000 tonnes per annum of SAF from 2027.
