Government of Chattisgarh, GAIL sign agreement for gas-based fertilizer plant

The Chhattisgarh government and GAIL (India) Limited have signed a non-binding MoU for the development of a greenfield gas-based fertiliser project in the state. As per the MoU, GAIL is expected to undertake the detailed techno-economic studies for setting up a urea manufacturing plant with a capacity of 1.27 million tonnes (mt). It is likely to be located along the Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda natural gas pipeline corridor of GAIL. The investment decision will be undertaken on the basis of the techno-economic evaluation. The Chhattisgarh government is expected to provide facilitation across all stages of the project, including supporting the feasibility studies, identifying and allocating suitable land parcels, coordinating with the state and central authorities, facilitating statutory approvals and enabling the infrastructure necessary for project implementation.
