NHPC commences operation of Subansiri lower hydro project’s 250 MW unit

NHPC has commenced commercial operation of the third unit of the Subansiri lower hydroelectric project. The project comprises eight units, each with a capacity of 250 MW, thereby taking the project’s total planned capacity to 2,000 MW. The project is located near North Lakhimpur, on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

The project’s total construction cost is around Rs 270 billion. Furthermore, the project is a run-of-river scheme with water storage on the Subansiri River. It is expected to enhance power supply in the North-Eastern region while supporting grid stability and clean energy generation.

Earlier this month, NHPC floated a tender to develop power evacuation infrastructure for the 1.2 GW Jalaun Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh.
