The Ministry of Home Affairs has officially designated three seaports, namely Vizhinjam (Kerala), Hazira (Gujarat), and Pipavav (Gujarat), as immigration check-posts for international passengers. Simultaneously, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been appointed as the new safety regulator for more than 250 maritime facilities, including major and minor seaports across India. The CISF, now recognised as a security organisation under the International Ship and Port Facility Security code, will lead key security functions.
