Ahmedabad Airport commissions new parallel taxiways R and R1

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at Ahmedabad has commissioned new Code C parallel taxiways, Taxiway R and Taxiway R1, on November 26, 2025. The taxiways will facilitate a 40 per cent increase in runway handling capacity. The project complies with Directorate General of Civil Aviation and International Civil Aviation Organization standards. Taxiway R is 1,126 metres long. It connects with the existing Code E parallel taxiway and allows 95 per cent of aircraft operating at Ahmedabad to move without backtracking. Taxiway R1 links R directly with Runway 05/23. With these additions, the airport’s runway capacity has increased from 20 air traffic movements (ATMs) per hour to 28 ATMs per hour
