Indian Railways completes manufacturing of first hydrogen powered train-set

Indian Railways (IR) has completed the manufacturing of its first 10 coach hydrogen powered train-set with a power of 2,400 kilowatts (kW) on the broad-gauge platform. It has been equipped with two driving power cars (DPCs) of 1200 kW each, totalling 2400 kW of power along with eight passenger cars. Further, there will be only water vapour emission and zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emission with the train’s operations.

Besides, a hydrogen plant is being established at Jind in Haryana for refuelling of hydrogen in the trainset. The plant will produce hydrogen using electrolysis process which is a key element of green hydrogen production.
