Indian Railways deploys 7,129 km of optical fibre for Kavach as of December 2025       

Indian Railways (IR) has deployed 7,129 km of optical fibre for Kavach on high-density routes as of December 5, 2025. Other progress includes the installation of 860 telecom towers, 2,674 route km (rkm) of track side equipment, and provision of Kavach in 4,154 locomotives and 549 stations.

Besides, Kavach 4.0 has been commissioned on Palwal-Mathura-Nagda section (633 rkm) on the Delhi-Mumbai route and Howrah-Bardhaman section (105 rkm) on the Delhi-Howrah route, covering a total of 738 rkm. Further, track side Kavach implementation work is underway on 15,512 rkm of network, covering all golden quadrilateral (GQ), golden diagonal (GD), high density network (HDN) and other identified sections of the Indian Railways (IR). Furthermore, bids have been invited for installing Kavach 4.0 on 9,069 locomotives.
