Work on Redevelopment of Madurai Junction Railway Station Project to complete by November 2026

The construction work on the Redevelopment of Madurai Junction Railway Station Project is expected to be completed by November 2026. A multilevel two-wheeler parking facility at the East entry and a multilevel four-wheeler parking facility at the West entry have already been completed and are now open to the public.

Furthermore, the staircase column works on platforms two and three have reached nearly 25 per cent, and backfilling is currently underway. Around 50 per cent of works in the east terminal covering segments one, two and three have also been completed. Passenger amenities such as AC and non-AC waiting halls, a retiring room-cum-dormitory, escalators, lifts, a hotel and a food court will be upgraded to cater to future demand. Subway works within the railway boundary have been completed, while additional portions are progressing. Brickwork for the lift headroom is also underway.

The project involves upgradation of Madurai railway station into a world-class station in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 3.47 billion.
