IR introduces rationalisation of rates for bulk cement transportation in containers and policy for bulk cement terminals

IR has introduced the rationalisation of rates for bulk cement transportation in containers and a policy for bulk cement terminals. The new rate structure for bulk cement has now been simplified, removing the earlier distance and weight slabs, and unveiling the new charges at a flat rate of Re 0.90 per tonne per km based on the train’s actual gross tonne km. It will also promote the use of tank containers for bulk cement transportation, providing an efficient multimodal, end-to-end logistics solution. Moreover, the tank container is designed with a standard dimension of 20 ft × 8 ft × 8.5 ft, offering a payload capacity of 26 tonnes and a gross weight of 31 tonnes. IR will also facilitate the development of bulk cement terminals under the “Bulk Cement Terminal” policy, which will enable smoother handling, storage and efficient transit of cement.
