The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has virtually flagged off the steel-cutting ceremony for India’s first all-electric tug, a milestone under the Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP). It is designed for Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla.
Designed for a 60 tonnes bollard pull capacity, the tug will operate with silent propulsion, zero carbon emissions, and greater energy efficiency.
The GTTP aims to induct 50 green tugs by 2030. During the first phase (2024-2027), 16 green tugs deployed across key ports including DPA, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Paradip Port Authority and V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority.
