The Ministry of Coal has notified 18 private entities as accredited prospecting agencies under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
These agencies are now authorised to undertake prospecting operations for coal and lignite exploration. The move is expected to reduce delays in mine development by eliminating the need for separate prospecting licences and could save up to six months in the mine operationalisation process. The step is part of the government’s ongoing reforms to attract private participation, enhance resource availability and fast-track coal production.
