Rs 60 billion worth MoUs signed for development and expansion of inland waterways along Ganga River on NW-1

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has signed memorandum of understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs 60 billion for development and expansion of inland waterways along the Ganga River on National Waterway (NW)-1 in Uttar Pradesh. These agreements were signed during the India Maritime Week 2025.

Under these agreements, the state will see the development of river cruise tourism, ship-repair infrastructure, multimodal logistics and clean-energy transport. Key projects include new cruise vessels, two river-cruise terminals, a regional Centre of Excellence, and electric-charging infrastructure for vessels.

Additional MoUs include Rs 10 billion for tug-barge cargo movement on the Ganga and Brahmaputra, and Rs 15 billion allocated for dredging works supervision on Ganga River (NW1).
