Odisha approves Rs 45 billion investment by CESC Green Power for solar and battery manufacturing

Odisha’s government has approved CESC Green Power’s proposal to invest approximately Rs 45 billion in renewable energy and battery manufacturing infrastructure across the state.

The project will be implemented in three phases and includes the establishment of a 3 GW solar cell manufacturing facility, a 3 GW solar module line, a 5 GWh advanced chemistry battery cell and pack unit, and a 60 MW (AC) captive power plant in Dhenkanal district. However, the state also faces challenges in retaining investments, as seen in Waaree’s partial relocation. The government is offering capital subsidies, land bank access, electricity duty and goods and service tax waivers to support the sector. The coming years will test the implementation success of these commitments as projects enter execution.
