V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC Port), Tuticorin, has recorded robust growth in cargo, container, and vessel operations in October 2025. The port handled 3.94 million tonnes of cargo and 75,110 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the month, marking increases of 10.94 per cent and 20.83 per cent, respectively compared to October 2024.
Overall, VOC Port processed 25.23 million tonnes of cargo and 503,204 TEUs during April-October FY 2025-26, reflecting moderate but steady growth of 2.71 per cent in overall cargo and 8.44 per cent in container volumes over the corresponding period of FY 2024-25. Vessel traffic also increased, with 1,064 ship calls recorded TEUs during April-October FY 2025-26, as compared to 1,004 ship calls in the previous year.
Operational efficiency has been a key driver of this progress. The port improved its average container vessel turnaround time from 20.16 hours to 19.20 hours, placing it among the top performers nationally. The newly commissioned direct port entry facility has further boosted export efficiency, handling 17,506 TEUs, 8.52 per cent of total export-laden containers, since April 2025.
