Letter of Exchange signed between India and Nepal to boost rail-freight operations

The Government of India and Government of Nepal have signed a letter of exchange (LoE), amending the protocol to the Treaty of Transit, which will boost rail-based freight operations (both containerised and bulk cargo) between Jogbani (India) and Biratnagar (Nepal).

It will promote transport from the ports of Kolkata and Visakhapatnam to the Nepal Customs Yard cargo station in Morang district, near Biratnagar. This will also extend to key transit corridors like Kolkata-Jogbani, Kolkata–Nautanwa (Sunauli), and Visakhapatnam–Nautanwa (Sunauli) in West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
