The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated 16 infrastructure projects and 113 corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives collectively worth Rs 15 billion at New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), Mangaluru. These projects include a 150-bed multi-specialty hospital built under public-private partnership model, the first such facility among India’s major ports and a new office building for the Mercantile Marine Department in Mangaluru.
The NMPA now operates 16 berths with a capacity of 74 million tonnes handling over 46 million tonnes and aims to reach 100 million tonnes by 2047. The port has become India’s largest coffee exporter and second largest liquefied petroleum gas importer, with 92 per cent mechanisation and full solar power adoption.
