The central government has approved preliminary environmental clearance to Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) for its 1,350 MW upper Sileru pumped storage project.
The Rs 130 billion project comprises nine generating units of 150 MW each and aims to enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration. The project has already secured technical clearance from the Central Electricity Authority and stage-I forest clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Final environmental clearance is expected shortly, after which the engineering, procurement and construction agency will begin implementation. The project is expected to help balance peak demand and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s energy infrastructure.
