The Chennai Port Authority (CPA) and V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) in Tamil Nadu have inked memorandums of understanding (MoUs) exceeding Rs 1.2 trillion during the India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai.
A notable project under CPA is a proposed Rs 80 billion Outer Harbour project of around 90 hectares (to be reclaimed) located between the fishing harbour and Bharathi Dock. Additionally, CPA’s subsidiary, Kamarajar Port is pursuing separate MoUs worth Rs 150 billion.
Meanwhile, VOC Port has committed MoUs valued at Rs 800 billion, including a Rs 20 billion pact with J M Baxi Ports & Logistics to establish shipbuilding and repair facilities aimed at increasing ship traffic by 25 per cent.
During the entire India Maritime Week 2025, more than Rs 12 trillion investment has been secured, with nearly 20 per cent focused on shipbuilding.
