The Ministry of Railways has approved the proposal to upgrade the electric traction system for two rail projects. These are:
Upgradation of Electric Traction System of Medchal–Mudkhed Rail Section Project involves upgradation of existing 1×25 kV electric traction system into 2×25 kV electric traction system between 225 km long Medchal-Mudkhed station at an estimated cost of Rs 1.93 billion in Telangana and Maharashtra, respectively.
Upgradation of Electric Traction System of Mahbubnagar-Dhone Rail Section Project involves upgradation of existing 1×25 kV electric traction system into 2×25 kV electric traction system between 184 km long Mahbubnagar–Dhone station at an estimated cost of Rs 1.22 billion in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, respectively.
The upgraded electric traction system will supply electricity at a higher voltage, enabling trains to operate at greater speeds and improved efficiency. Enhanced voltage regulation will also minimise voltage drops, ensuring a more stable power supply.
