Haldia multi-modal terminal handed over to IRC Natural Resources

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has handed over the Haldia multi‑modal terminal in West Bengal to IRC Natural Resources for operations and maintenance under a 15-year concession on an equip operate transfer basis.

The terminal, built with World Bank support under the Jal Marg Vikas Project on National Waterway 1, has an annual handling capacity of 3.08 million metric tonnes and is connected to National Highway 41, with rail connectivity planned.

IRC emerged as highest bidder quoting a royalty of Rs 105.03 per metric tonne payable to IWAI. This step is expected to enhance freight movement via inland waterways, offering a greener, cost-effective logistics alternative for India’s North Eastern states and Bangladesh.
