Kerala government inaugurates Mattancherry, Willingdon Island terminals under Kochi Water Metro Phase I Project in Kerala  

The government of Kerala (GoK) inaugurated Mattancherry and Willingdon Island terminals under Phase I of the Kochi Water Metro Project on October 11, 2025. With this, water metro services on the High Court-Willingdon Island-Mattancherry route have commenced.

Currently, the tendering process has started for Edakochi and Thoppumpady terminals, while construction works on Mulavukad North, Kumbalam, Kadamakudy and Paliyamthuruth terminals are in the final stages.

The project involves the development of an integrated water transport system, covering 78 km on 15 routes in Kochi in Kerala. It is partially being funded by the KfW Development Bank through loan assistance and the remaining cost is being funded by the state government. The estimated cost of the entire project is Rs 11.36 billion.
