Vizhinjam Port obtain customs approval to function as a gateway terminal for EXIM trade

Vizhinjam International Seaport has obtained customs approval to function as a gateway terminal for export-import (EXIM) trade. The port can now unload imported goods and load export consignments. The Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange System (ICES 1.5) is also active at the facility, enabling streamlined documentation and customs clearance processes. Trial operations are expected to begin soon, while full-scale gateway operations will depend on completing these supporting facilities. The port will soon install a dynamic mooring system aimed at making the loading and unloading of containers from anchored ships smoother and less weather-dependent. Port authorities report that the required machinery has already arrived.
