The Rajasthan government has approved amendments to the Sewerage and Wastewater Policy, 2016. The intervention intends to mitigate the environmental and public health hazards caused by untreated wastewater. Reportedly, the revised policy aims to construct systematic and structured sewerage systems across Rajasthan, aligning with the Swachh Bharat Mission. Furthermore, the amendments are pivotal in strengthening obsolete sewerage infrastructure and ensuring that drains carry only rainwater. The revisions also incorporate technological advancements, innovative practices, reuse of treated water and the feedback of relevant departments for wastewater management. Additionally, the approved framework introduces HAM for project execution, a mechanism already in use under the Namami Gange programme.
