Iandita Bhatt is ED, planning, at the Airports Authority of India (AAI). She has over 30 years of experience in the aviation sector, specialising in airport design, master planning and management. Since joining AAI in 1996, Bhatt has held different positions in the organisation and has been instrumental in reviewing various airport master plans to ensure they meet both short-term and long-term needs.
She undertook collaborations with planning experts and specialists on various high-profile airport development projects. She also analysed aerodrome safeguarding assessments using CAD and various geographic information systems (GIS), safeguarding Udaipur airport from the adverse impacts of nearby developments. Bhatt led the Airside Safety Department team to ensure safe and efficient aircraft and personnel operations, in line with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines. As airport director, she reviewed and implemented multiple planning initiatives, participated in public engagement meetings with airport stakeholders and tracked assets. Bhatt also developed standardised training packages for the International Civil Aviation Organization’s TRAINAIR PLUS Programme and delivered lectures at the Indian Aviation Academy on airport planning.
According to her, “The opening up of new airports is a key trend that will strengthen the aviation sector, with regional connectivity also expected to make headway. I believe that a futuristic thought process is essential to keep up with future infrastructure requirements, new technologies, and emerging segments such as air taxis, eVTOLs, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and flying training schools.” Bhatt follows a disciplined and focused work ethic, and prioritises timely work delivery. She is a strong team player and believes in the effective allocation of tasks based on strengths, while actively mentoring the team in achieving targets. Bhatt was among the 51 women to meet the President of India. She has also received the International Airport Professional of the Year award. She has often featured among the top 100 women in the world in aviation on LinkedIn. Bhatt earned a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, and completed her graduation from Sir JJ College of Architecture, Mumbai. She also completed the Airport Management Professional Accreditation Program and holds postgraduate diplomas in human resource, and in personnel management in industrial relations. She enjoys reading and music and is passionate about trekking and visiting new places. She also volunteers to teach underprivileged children.
