Indian Railways (IR) has registered a capital expenditure (capex) of Rs 1,424.87 billion during the financial year (FY) 2025-26 (till September 2025), marking the highest mid-year utilisation ever achieved by IR. This represents 56.5 per cent of the total budget allocation of Rs 2,522 billion.
Moreover, IR has utilised Rs 490.01 billion (45 per cent) out of the Rs 1,099.86 billion allocated for capacity augmentation, Rs 259.48 billion (46 per cent) out of Rs 566.93 billion allocated for rolling stock, Rs 222.86 billion (56 per cent) out of Rs 394.56 billion allocated for safety works, and Rs 58.63 billion (49 per cent) out of Rs 120.04 billion allocated for customer amenities.
