The Ministry of Coal has launched the Namchik-Namphuk coal block in Arunachal Pradesh, marking the launch of the state’s first commercial coal mine.
With reserves of 15 million tonnes, the coal block was first allocated in 2003 and was revived through a transparent auction in 2022. The mine is expected to generate over Rs 1 billion in annual revenue for the state.
