DP World, in collaboration with Ocean Network Express (ONE), has launched the first dedicated reefer rail freight service from the Inland Container Depot (ICD) Thimmapur in Hyderabad to Nhava Sheva [Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA)] in Maharashtra. This service will provide customised logistics for pharmaceutical exporters by maintaining stable temperatures through precise temperature control. By consolidating cargo in a single train, rail transport ensures the entire volume reaches the port together, aligned with vessel schedules.
Additionally, the new weekly service can transport about 43 forty-feet containers in a single train and can reduce carbon emissions by up to 70 per cent compared to road transport. With four scheduled services per month, DP World aims to shift over 172 containers from road to rail, thereby reducing road congestion – equivalent to taking 43 trucks off the road per day.
