Around 1,174 km of national highway projects have been sanctioned in Telangana, totalling Rs 304.25 billion, in addition to 422 km of roads funded by Rs 8.68 billion this year through the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). There are presently 26 projects at the detailed project report (DPR) stage; once the DPRs are complete, the project deadlines will be made public.
Since the current road is blocked at night to provide wildlife with safe passage, the Centre is planning a four-lane elevated roadway across the Tiger Reserve area to connect Hyderabad and Srisailam.
Highways that have received clearance include, NH-353C with Rs 1.63 billion for the 17 km road extension between Mahadevpur and Sironcha, Maharashtra; NH-930P with 42 km from Gaurelli to Valigonda, costing Rs 6.9 billion; a 14 km, 4-lane bypass between Nakirekal and Nagarjuna Sagar costing Rs 5.16 billion under NH-565; NH-167K with Rs 10.82 billion for a famous 1.1 km cable bridge that spans the Krishna River at Somasila (the border between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana).
Key allocations include Rs 4.36 billion for 13.4 km approach roads to the cable bridge and Rs 6.74 billion for a 69.1 km road expansion from Torrur to Nehru Nagar in Warangal district. Another Rs 8.26 billion has been earmarked for 52.1 km from Nehru Nagar to Kothagudem, and Rs 6.62 billion for a 41.3 km four-lane expansion from Sironcha to Atmakur, with tenders in the final stages.
For road repairs, Rs 0.04 billion is allocated for 4.5 km from the Maharashtra border to Bodhan (NH-63), Rs 0.18 billion for 28.67 km from Nakirekal to Tanancharla (NH-365), and Rs 0.29 billion across multiple stretches on NH-930P. Other repairs include Rs 0.14 billion for 3.24 km on NH-61 and Rs 0.16 billion for 11.2 km in the Bodhan-Basara-Bhainsa section (NH-161BB). Additionally, Rs 0.04 billion is designated for a foot overbridge between Nakirekal and Nagarjuna Sagar (NH-565).
Major four-lane expansions include Rs 23.38 billion for 63.6 km and Rs 25.48 billion for 66.3 km from Jagtial to Mancherial (NH-63), Rs 24.84 billion for 58.6 km from Jagtial to Karimnagar (NH-563), and Rs 26.62 billion for 80 km from Gudebellur to Marikal (NH-167) under the Hyderabad-Panaji economic corridor.
Other significant projects include Rs 3.44 billion for a 10.36 km bypass from Hasanpur to Kaduru, Rs 139.57 billion for a 161.5 km four-lane greenfield expressway from Girmapur to Tangadapalli, along with underpasses and foot overbridges valued at Rs 0.53 billion and Rs 0.26 billion on NH-44 and NH-163, respectively.
