On August 19, 2025, the Maharashtra government signed a strategic agreement with TuTr Hyperloop Private Limited, a deep‑tech start-up incubated at IIT Madras, to develop a hyperloop-based cargo transit system. The facility will connect Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) in Navi Mumbai to the upcoming Vadhavan port in Palghar district. The proposed system will use linear induction motor technology to enable the high-speed movement of goods between the two ports, addressing long-standing congestion issues on road and rail networks. This initiative will position the JNP at the forefront of smart and sustainable port operations.
