North Central Railway plans to install 1,782 CCTV cameras in passenger coaches for enhanced safety

North Central Railway (NCR) has announced plans to install a total of 1,782 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras across all passenger coaches under the Prayagraj, Jhansi and Agra railway divisions. As per the plan, cameras will be installed in 895 Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches and 887 Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches. Cameras will be positioned at the entry and exit points of the coaches, with four cameras to be installed in each air-conditioned (AC) coach, and six cameras each in pantry cars, seating-cum-luggage (SLR) coach and general compartments.

Besides, monitoring will be carried out at the zone’s headquarters, as well as at the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) offices in each of the above divisions. Additionally, advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled cameras will be installed on selected premium trains. NCR is also considering extending surveillance to locomotive cabins.
