92 per cent of work completed on Tiruchirappalli Underground Drainage (Phase III) Project

Around 92 per cent of the work on the Tiruchirappalli Underground Drainage (UGD) (Phase III) Project has been completed in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The project, being implemented by the Tiruchirappalli Municipal Corporation (TMC) will cover 16 wards at an estimated cost of Rs 3.30 billion. The remaining works under the Phase III of the project are expected to be completed by December 2025 while the project commissioning is targeted by early 2026. A consultant will be identified for the completion of the remaining work and conduction of the trial run before the project completion report submission.

Further, the works under the Phase II of the project have been completed. The scope of the work under Phase II of the project involved installation of pipelines of length 287 km and sewage network coverage for about 25 wards at an estimated cost of Rs 3.77 billion. Besides, TMC has expedited the works for a centralised STP at Panjapur sanctioned at a cost of Rs 2.38 billion. The upcoming STP will handle the wastewater from Phase II and III projects.
