On August 31, 2025, the Government of Kerala laid the foundation stone for the Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi Tunnel Road (AKMTR) Project.
Using engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) as the basis, the project entails building a twin-tube unidirectional tunnel with two lanes in each traffic direction in the Kozhikode and Wayanad Districts of Kerala. It also includes a four-lane approach road for direct connectivity between Anakkampoyil and Kalladi and Meppadi from km 0.460 to km 8.735 (with total project length of 8.275 km), at a total cost of Rs 21,345 million.
