Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission approves Kerala State Electricity Board Limited plan for 125 MW battery energy storage system

The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has approved Kerala State Electricity Board Limited’s proposal to set up a 125 MW/500 MWh battery energy storage system across four substations in the state.

The approved locations and respective capacities are Sreekantapuram (40 MW/160 MWh), Mulleria (15 MW/60 MWh), Areacode (30 MW/120 MWh) and Pothencode (40 MW/160 MWh). KSERC has also sanctioned tariffs ranging from Rs 434,000 per MW per month to Rs 457,000 per MW per month, along with a trading margin of Rs 0.07 per kWh. The project will be implemented through tariff-based competitive bidding and supported by viability gap funding (VGF) to be provided by a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power.
