The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has approved Kerala State Electricity Board Limited’s proposal to set up a 125 MW/500 MWh battery energy storage system across four substations in the state.
The approved locations and respective capacities are Sreekantapuram (40 MW/160 MWh), Mulleria (15 MW/60 MWh), Areacode (30 MW/120 MWh) and Pothencode (40 MW/160 MWh). KSERC has also sanctioned tariffs ranging from Rs 434,000 per MW per month to Rs 457,000 per MW per month, along with a trading margin of Rs 0.07 per kWh. The project will be implemented through tariff-based competitive bidding and supported by viability gap funding (VGF) to be provided by a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power.
