Western Railway (WR) has commissioned and energised India’s first 2×25 kV electric traction system under the Mission Raftaar initiative, at the Nagda-Khachrod section in its Ratlam division. The system comprises of two Scott-connected 100 MVA (megavolt-amperes) power transformers, which facilitate efficient transfer of electrical load to the overhead equipment (OHE).
The Nagda traction substation (TSS) was the first to be energised using Scott transformer technology. This development is expected to improve train speeds, increase traction power availability and enhance energy efficiency. BNC Power Projects Limited served as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project.
