H.C. Pant: General Manager – CGD, GAIL India Limited

H .C. Pant is an Instrumentation and Control Engineering graduate from the University of Delhi, with 28 years of experience in the petrochemical and city gas distribution (CGD) industries. His GAIL journey began in the petrochemicals domain, where he spent 25 years. During his stint at the petrochemicals division, he led teams responsible for automation, process and safety controls, integrated managerial information systems, advanced process control systems, advanced analytical systems, digital integration initiatives, etc., achieving operational optimisation and efficiency enhancement.

At present, as a general manager at GAIL Gas Limited (wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL (India) Limited), he is heading the corporate project planning, engineering and execution team. GAIL Gas is currently focusing on expanding its pipeline network, compressed natural gas stations, liquefied natural gas stations  and piped natural gas connectivity infrastructure to maximise its reach to all potential transport, industrial, commercial and domestic gas end users at 16 geographical areas across the country. Since the CGD sector is diverse in terms of business requirements and physical spread, the organisation’s key focus is on adoption of smart metering, digital technologies and analytical tools in all segments of the CGD businesses. He is leading this digital drive in the organisation, which is expected to enable operational optimisation, reduce manual processes and interventions, and maximise automated operations and data-driven decision-making.

Pant strongly feels that the CGD sector is poised to become one of the key and critical national infrastructures and see accelerated growth in the coming years. He also stresses that, as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, it is imperative for India to prioritise infrastructure development to sustain long-term economic growth. Since the infrastructure sector is an enabler for most businesses to set up, sustain and grow, it is certain to receive strong support from all sides to accelerate its growth.

Pant deeply values the ethical principles ingrained in him by his parents, which are rooted in honesty and respect for others. He leads his teams with this basic principle of empathy, setting an example through his actions, and considers his team to be his greatest strength. The combination of team spirit, camaraderie and his calm demeanour in the most challenging situations helps him navigate crises smoothly.

Pant is very passionate about sports, with a weekly round of golf allowing him to reset with complete freshness for the next week. Writing Hindi poetry brings him immense satisfaction and joy.
