Centre inaugurates mechanisation of north cargo berth-III at VOC Port in Tamil Nadu for interim operations

The central government has recently inaugurated the mechanisation of north cargo berth (NCB)-III project at V. O. Chidambaranar Port for interim operations. The project involves mechanisation of NCB-III for handling coal in Tamil Nadu through public-private partnership mode on design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis. The capacity of the berth will be 6.96 million tonnes per annum. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2.85 billion.

Besides, a six-laning of the 5.16 km National Highway (NH)-138 Tuticorin Port Road was inaugurated. The port road connectivity project was built at around Rs 2 billion.
