Thoothukudi Airport witnesses inauguration of new terminal building

The Thoothukudi Airport in Tamil Nadu witnessed the inauguration of the new terminal building on July 26, 2025.

The facility spread across 17,340 square metres was developed at a cost of around Rs 4.5 billion, and has a capacity to handle 2 million passenger per annum (mppa). Further, the runway at the airport has been extended from the earlier 1,350 metres to 3,115 metres.

The terminal also features 100 per cent LED lighting, the reuse of treated water with the on-site sewage treatment plant, and has a GRIHA-4 sustainability rating.

The move is expected to enhance trade, tourism, and travel in Thoothukudi in addition to enhancing connectivity.

Works are also underway to develop the old terminal building into a cargo terminal.
