Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S-1074B achieved its first breakthrough at Kodambakkam ramp under package UG-02 of the Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase-II on July 23, 2025. It was commissioned in May 2024 at Panagal Park Crossover and travelled for 2,047 metres till Kodambakkam ramp.
Package UG-02 involves construction of underground stations at Boat Club, Nandanam, Panagal Park, Kodambakkam, Kodambakkam Flyover including underground crossover at Panagal Park station and associated twin tunnel, cut and cover box, U section and ramp from chainage 5.15 km-10.27 km (down line). ITD Cementation India Limited was awarded contract for the same.
Phase II of the project involves development of 118.9-km three metro corridors (Corridor III, IV and V) in Chennai,Tamil Nadu. It is mostly underground with elevated sections confined to a few short stretches and consists of 128 stations in total.
