DP World, Deendayal Port Authority, and Nevomo sign MoU to explore opportunities to develop autonomous magnetic rail freight

DP World, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), and Nevomo (European firm) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities to develop a pilot project for autonomous, magnetic rail freight at Deendayal (Kandla) Port using Nevomo’s proprietary MagRail technology.

The agreement outlines a 750 metres demonstration of self‑propelled electric wagons, powered by linear motors running on existing tracks within the port ecosystem. The aim is to automate short-haul cargo transfers, reducing dependency on diesel locomotives, cutting carbon dioxide emissions, and boosting operational efficiency and enhancing speeds for both containerised and bulk freight.
