Tunnel boring machine DZ1090 achieves second breakthrough under Patna Metro Project Phase I

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) DZ1090 has achieved a second breakthrough at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) station for package PC-03 under Patna Metro Rail Project Phase I.

It was commissioned at Patna University station in June 2024 and travelled for 1,068 metres till PMCH station.

PC-03 involves design and construction of twin tunnel by shield TBM, tunnel by cut and cover, underground ramp at Rajendra Nagar and six underground stations viz. Rajendra Nagar, Moin Ul Haq Stadium, University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan and Akashvani with entry/exits and connecting subway including architectural finishing, water supply, sanitation installation and drainage works in Corridor 2. Larsen & Toubro was awarded the contract for the package in December 2021.

Phase I of the project involves the development of a 32.5 km long metro rail network in Patna, Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 139.25 billion. It involves the development of two corridors, viz. Corridor 1 (Danapur Cantt-Mithapur) and Corridor 2 (Patna Junction-Patna ISBT).
