The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved a breakthrough in the construction of 1.29 km long tunnel 2 of the twin tube tunnel of the Kaithlighat-Shakral Four Laning Road Project (NH-5) [Shimla Bypass Two/ Four Laning Road Project (NH-5) (Package I)].
The tunnel 2 involves the construction of a 1.29 km long tunnel connecting Ranghav and Bhad villages in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh.
The overall project involves the four-laning of a 17.46 km long road stretch connecting Kaithlighat to Shakral village from 128.83 km to 146.3 km, including 2 twin tunnels measuring 700 m and 1300 m, 18 bridges and 53 box culverts on the National Highway (NH)-5 at a cost of Rs 18,500 million.
